According to industry sources, the company is reviewing the name “LIG Defence & Aerospace” as a replacement for its current brand.
The proposed change reflects LIG Nex1’s ambition to reposition itself as a comprehensive defense and aerospace player, aligning its identity with expanding businesses in missiles, sensors, electronic warfare, space, and advanced ISR capabilities.
Preparatory steps are already underway. The firm has reportedly secured related trademarks and internet domains, indicating that the rebranding plan has moved beyond an initial concept stage.
However, the name change has not yet been finalized and remains subject to internal approval and regulatory procedures, including notification requirements under South Korea’s defense industry regulations.
Founded in 1976, LIG Nex1 has grown into a cornerstone of the country’s defense sector, supplying guided weapons, radars, and command-and-control systems to the Republic of Korea Armed Forces while steadily increasing its export footprint. In recent years, the company has also accelerated investments in space, unmanned systems, and next-generation aerospace technologies.
Industry observers view the potential rebrand as more than cosmetic. It underscores a strategic shift toward higher-value, future-oriented domains as South Korea’s defense firms seek to compete more directly with major global primes in both military and aerospace markets.
If confirmed, the new name would formally mark LIG Nex1’s transition from a missile- and systems-focused defense supplier into a broader defense-and-aerospace group, timed to coincide with its half-century milestone.
